GD Energy Services acquires Battaglino Group hydro and industrial services business

– The BATTAGLINO Group, which employs around 60 people and has an annual turnover of around EUR 10 million, has more than 70 years of experience in industrial painting, building painting and asbestos removal.

– Through this acquisition, the Valencia-based GDES group anticipates an annual turnover of EUR 26 million in surface treatment services alone in France.

GD ENERGY SERVICES (GDES) and the BATTAGLINO Group have decided to join forces to strengthen their Coatings and Surface Treatment business in France through two separate companies, REVANTI BATTAGLINO and REVANTI ACANTHE. Two new brands that specialise in services for the hydro and industrial sectors, asbestos treatment, waterproofing and coatings for concrete.

Héctor Dominguis, CEO of GDES, Jean-Bernard Tonera, General Manager of Battaglino, Dominique Mouillot, Vice President of GDES in France, Guillaume Perrin, President of Battaglino,  Patrice Guerra, ‘Directeur du développement’ GDES France and Iván Maqueda Iglesias, Surface Treatment B.U. Director of GDES.

With this investment, GDES aims to expand its most established business in France – surface treatment, paints and special coatings – by adding the human resources required to meet its ambitious development plan.

GDES has been consolidating its brands in France for several years, with chemical cleaning, technological development, decommissioning and surface treatment services for the nuclear and wind power industry in France. GDES was also the first European (non-French) company to hold CAEAR certification to perform decommissioning services for the CEA.

One of the largest projects in which GDES is participating is the construction of the ITER fusion reactor, the largest science and engineering project in the world, located in Cadarache (Provence), where GDES is the company tasked with applying all the coatings to the main and annex buildings.

GDES has been operating in the French nuclear market for more than ten years, during which time it has successfully consolidated its position in the country with an average growth of 54% in recent years. Since 2020, GDES has provided surface maintenance and coatings services for 20% of French nuclear power plants and is now one of the leading companies in coatings for the French nuclear sector.

The BATTAGLINO Group, headed by Jean-Bernard Tonera, employs around 60 people and has an annual turnover of around EUR 10 million. It has more than 70 years of experience in industrial painting, building painting and asbestos removal. The hydroelectric sector is one of its main fields of operation and EDF and CNR of its main clients.

Both business groups are specialists in the same type of activity, but they do not operate in the same sectors; the main activity of the GDES group is in the nuclear sector and that of BATTAGLINO is in the industrial and hydropower sectors.

Through this partnership, the Valencia-based GDES group anticipates an annual turnover of EUR 26 million in surface treatment services alone in France and reaffirms its strategy with a portfolio of bids amounting to more than EUR 100 million in France to participate, among other projects, in the coating of new nuclear reactors to be built in France or in projects to extend the lifespan of its 56 existing reactors.

Synergies between the workforces of the two business groups will allow them to offer their main customers services including local implementation, qualified personnel, know-how and experience, as well as R&D and engineering, further expanding the supply capacity in high-potential sectors such as the French hydropower sector.
