GDES to take part in the Portuguese hydropower megaproject

The Valencia-based company will perform various coating operations at the hydroelectric complex that Iberdrola is building on the Tâmega River.

GDES has been awarded a contract for the supply and application of surface protection coatings and paints at the three hydroelectric plants under construction for the power generation megaproject that Iberdrola is developing in the Alto Tâmega area in northern Portugal. Work will be carried out over the three-year duration of the project.

The project consists of a giga battery comprising three hydroelectric plants – Gouvães, Daivões and Alto Tâmega – with an installed capacity of 1,158 MW, increasing the total installed electrical power in the country by 6%. Construction is in its final stretch and the complex is expected to be fully operational by 2023.

On this project, GDES will be responsible for the application of coatings and paints to various elements, equipment, floors, and walls, for anti-corrosion protection and concrete protection.
