Lainsa is recognised by EDF as an exemplary company in security
The work of the mechanical and chemical cleaning of superheater dryers of the GSS type carried out by Lainsa in collaboration with Solarca during March at the French nuclear power station of Bugey has been recognised by Electricité de France (EDF) as the “Best Security Work of the first quarter of 2011″. This was part of the programme of the recognition of maintenance suppliers known as “Challenge de Sécurité 2011″.
In early 2011 EDF started the “Challenge de Sécurité” programme, an initiative that aims to reward an exemplary piece of work on security each quarter. The best work is chosen by a panel of judges of the Technical Operative Unit (Unité Technique Opérationnelle, UTO) of EDF after the visits it makes during the execution of the works, assessing different security culture criteria: transparency, the quality of risk evolution and of the preventive solutions applied, staff behaviour, respect for rules, and an attitude of continuous improvement, among others.
In the first quarter of 2011, EDF has recognised the work of mechanical and chemical cleaning that the Valencia company Lainsa carried out in March on the GSSs of unit four of the nuclear power station of Bugey in collaboration with Solarca (a company in which the Grupo Dominguis has a stockholding of 50%). According to the explanation of the Head of Systems Management of the Grupo Dominguis, Julián Mendoza, the aspects most highly valued by the French electrical company as to this work were “the solutions for preventing falls on the same level and the precautionary measures in the use of chemical products”.
Mendoza, for its part, insists that order at work and the professionalism of specialised staff are vital if excellence in security work is to be achieved. The Grupo Dominguis takes the trouble to ensure that both premises are complied with, as it is only in this way that quality work can be carried out as its clients demand. A well-deserved prize This mention of EDF means more recognition for the prevention and security culture in which the company belonging to the Grupo Dominguis puts its faith. Moreover, the fact that this comes from a foreign company gives it extra value, as it stimulates its international expansion. Julián Mendoza explains: “This recognition means a lot to us because we are a Spanish company working for EDF in France, which is the country with the most important nuclear sector in Europe. Therefore, the fact that they consider Lainsa the best company for security is well-deserved recognition for the efforts we have made”.
Lainsa has always been strongly committed to aspects of Health and Security, and as a result of this responsibility has won several awards, such as the 2006 Iberdrola Supplier prize in the Risk Prevention category; the OHSAS18001 Certificate obtained in 2008 for its Health and Security administration system; a Mention of Honour in the 2009 Prever Prizes that was awarded to the Group as a whole; and the MASE/UIC Common System certificate for Security and Health at Work awarded this year by the French body GIPHISE- ASE.
The new distinction of “Best Security Work of the first uarter of 2011″ is now added to those previously awarded and opens the door to the possibility of receiving a special prize at the end of the year. This is another idea from EDF to reward the effort made and the good work of its maintenance suppliers.
