Lainsa has organised the “II Health and Radiation Symposium”
Lainsa, the subsidiary company of the Dominguis Group, specialists in industrial cleaning and decontamination services for nuclear power plants and radioactive facilities, has organised, together with other institutions, the II Health and Radiation Symposium (II Jornadas sobre salud y radiaciones). The conference, which was held last June in Teruel, aimed to bring together the different laboratory studies that use biological dosimetry and to introduce the new equipment and advances in food-borne radioprotectors. The meeting was organised by Lainsa, the Official College of Doctors of Teruel, the La Fe hospital of Valencia and Iberdrola.
Marcelo Soto, the director of the Radiological Protection Technical Unit of Lainsa, represented Dominguis Group in the organising committee of this symposium, which lasted over three days. During that time, issues of great interest were dealt with, such as the results of cytogenetic studies on children from the Chernobyl area, metabolic therapy in nuclear medicine or the biological effects of non-ionizing radiation.
The aim was to present the most recent studies on food-borne radioprotectors, the new advances in new equipment, lead-free individual protection and the assessment of chromosomal damage caused by ionizing radiations (I.R).
The health plan presented interesting proposals about the possible stochastic effects of I.R upon the blood and the value of the lab data in the diagnosis and prognosis of irradiated patients.
Additionally, in recognition of their interest in workplace health and safety, Lainsa was awarded a new certificate for the Prevention of Workplace Risk and Environmental Protection, the “Common System Certification MASE/UIC”.
This accreditation is awarded by French body, GIPHISE-MASE, after an assessment of safety, health and environment which was carried out by the accredited independent entity, Bureau Veritas France.
The assessment report stresses various strengths of the working system. Among these strengths was the implementation of prevention and evaluation plans for specific risks relating to each work or project, the analysis of accidents and incidents using the advanced 5M method, the use of annual internal assessments in all work centres and the commitment to development, valuing the resources used and the individual development of the new members.
