GDES Participates in the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society
A Coruña hosted the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society (SNE) from 7 to 9 October, the leading professional event for the nuclear sector in Spain.
Over the course of three days, the conference brought together 734 participants, who shared knowledge and experience through 44 technical sessions, 271 presentations, three round tables, two specialised workshops, a Young Generation Networking Session, and a commercial exhibition featuring 25 exhibiting companies.
GDES played a prominent role in both the technical programme and the parallel activities of the event, reaffirming its commitment to innovation, safety and technological development within the nuclear sector.
Among the contributions presented were:
- José Ignacio Roselló, GDES Innovation Technical Manager, participated alongside specialists from ANAV in the presentation “Artificial Intelligence-Based Early Detection System for Algae and Macrophytes at Ascó NPP”, an initiative that applies artificial intelligence technologies to optimise the environmental monitoring of the facility.
- Miriam Jiménez, GDES Project Manager, presented “Mobile Temporary Boron Injection Device (DPMB)”, a solution designed to enhance operational safety through mobile boron injection systems.
- Julián Mendoza, GDES Director of Quality, Safety and CSR, delivered the presentation “Comparison of Behavioural Safety Approaches: The Experience of GD Energy Services”, sharing the company’s initiatives and lessons learned in the field of safety culture.
- In addition, Iberdrola presented the paper “XeDet, a Tool for Results Analysis During a Flux-Tilt”, developed with the collaboration of GDES.
The company also contributed to the organisation of the technical programme through Cristina González Garrido, Director of Decommissioning Services in Spain, who chaired the session “Decommissioning and Facility Closure II”.
Innovation, Talent and Technology
Beyond the technical sessions, GDES reinforced its commitment to talent development and innovation by participating in the Young Generation Networking Session, an initiative aimed at bringing sector companies closer to students and young professionals.
GDES also took part in the Nuclear Technology: LTO Mission workshop, where it showcased some of its most advanced robotic solutions for the operation and maintenance of nuclear facilities. Attendees had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the capabilities of the Quadrad, Inspex and DEMOS robots, developed to improve safety, efficiency and digitalisation in plant activities, waste characterisation and inspections in confined spaces.
The GDES stand once again became a meeting point for professionals, customers and collaborators from across the sector. Throughout the three-day event, visitors were able to learn about some of the company’s most significant projects, exchange experiences and take part in the “Beat the Nuclear Challenge” initiative, an outreach activity designed to test their knowledge of the nuclear sector.
The strong reception of this initiative was reflected in the high level of participation and culminated in the presentation of prizes to the challenge winners, in a ceremony attended by Paulo Santos, President of the Spanish Nuclear Society.
The meeting concluded with the official closing ceremony, during which both the technical and human dimensions of an event that continues to serve as a benchmark for nuclear industry professionals were highlighted. The ceremony emphasised the strategic importance of nuclear energy for the country’s future energy mix and the need to continue fostering collaboration among companies, institutions and professionals.
At GDES, we are proud to have been part of an edition that once again provided an opportunity to share knowledge, promote innovation and strengthen relationships among the various stakeholders of the nuclear industry.
Looking ahead to the next edition, the Spanish Nuclear Society (SNE) announced that Tarragona will host the 53rd Annual Meeting.
See you in Tarragona!
