NPP implementation of the Off-Gas continuous monitoring system

GDES Technology For Services (GDES T4S) has successfully completed the project to implement a system for “real-time monitoring and evaluation of the integrity of the reactor fuel and control rods, through continuous measurement of gases in the off-gas line” at the Cofrentes NPP during its last refueling outage.

Data on the integrity of the fuel and the control rods is of vital importance for safe operation of a nuclear power plant. This new system enables early detection of fuel failures and monitors their progress. Simultaneously, the system also monitors the integrity of the control rods. This technology delivers online fuel monitoring, significantly reducing operations time and lowering operating costs.

The Off-Gas Continuous Monitoring System is the pioneer project of GDES T4S, a company resulting from the partnership between Iberdrola and GDES. The project was developed by a multidisciplinary team, whose members come from GDES R&D, Radiological Protection and Information Systems departments, with direct support from staff at the Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant.
