Lithuanian Scientific Visit. RATA-INPP Support
GD Energy Services has organised a scientific visit for members of the management and technical staff of two official Lithuanian bodies: the Radioactive Waste Management Agency (RATA) and Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP). This visit has been sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and has included the active collaboration of the following public and private entities: The Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), the Spanish Nuclear Industry Forum, the Centre for Energy-Related, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construcción and Iberdrola Generación Nuclear.
The objective of the scientific visit was to show the Lithuanian delegation the experience and practical aspects of radioactive waste management and the dismantling of nuclear facilities in Spain. For the most part the visit took place in Valencia, at the GDES Innovation Centre installations at the UPV and consisted of the presentation of technical papers by representatives of the collaborating companies and institutions and by GDES technicians. A visit was made to the Innovation Centre, where the Lithuanian delegation gained first-hand insight into the technology innovation projects that GDES is performing in different energy sector fields. In addition, there was a visit to Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant, where issues such as the processing of radioactive wastes and communications with the stakeholders were dealt with. Finally, a visit was made to Ciemat, more specifically to the radioactive waste characterisation laboratories and processing facilities.
The Lithuanian delegation showed great interest at all times in the subjects dealt with through its active participation, and for GDES the organisation of this international seminar has allowed the company to showcase its technological capacities and its wide experience in the dismantling of nuclear facilities.
