{"id":72253,"date":"2022-11-18T10:40:44","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T09:40:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/?p=72253"},"modified":"2023-01-02T11:42:36","modified_gmt":"2023-01-02T10:42:36","slug":"90-aniversario-grupo-dominguis-energy-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/en\/blog\/2022\/11\/18\/90-aniversario-grupo-dominguis-energy-services\/","title":{"rendered":"90th Anniversary of GD Energy Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>GD Energy Services (GDES)<\/strong>, a Valencia-based international business group chaired by <strong>Jos\u00e9 Dominguis Renard<\/strong> and directed by CEO <strong>H\u00e9ctor Dominguis P\u00e9rez<\/strong>, is celebrating 90 years of providing services to industry, particularly to the energy sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Founded in Valencia in 1932<\/strong>, this business group is today a leader in support services for operations, maintenance and decommissioning, surface treatment, logistics, energy efficiency and digital transformation for industrial sectors such as nuclear, wind, solar photovoltaic, metallurgy, and many others.\u00a0GDES currently has a presence in 8 countries and a highly qualified team with a turnover of 84 million euros in 2021.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The history of this family business is the story of three generations that began in Pego (Alicante), at the beginning of the 20th century and in the midst of the post-World War I crisis, when Joaqu\u00edn Dominguis Cardona, like many other young people from La Marina and La Safor, decided to emigrate to the United States at the age of 17 to forge a future for himself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The origins of GD Energy Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-898 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/1932\/11\/Joaquin-Dominguis-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/1932\/11\/Joaquin-Dominguis-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/1932\/11\/Joaquin-Dominguis-1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Joaqu\u00edn Dominguis Cardona<\/strong> returned to Spain in 1923 with a clear business plan. He set up his own painting company <strong>Pinturas J. Dominguis<\/strong>, founded in Valencia in 1932, which focused on the wall painting business and was involved in major projects in the city such as <em>La<\/em> <em>Finca Roja<\/em>, the <em>Cooperativa de Agentes Comerciales<\/em> building and <em>Los Chalets de los Periodistas<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>With the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, <strong>Joaqu\u00edn Dominguis Cardona<\/strong> was forced into exile, moving to Algeria where he was sent to a concentration camp, leaving behind his fledgling business, his wife and four children. He did not return to Spain until 1948 but, despite the hardships at the time, he swiftly and successfully relaunched the business, securing painting contracts for residential buildings and maintenance contracts for landmark buildings owned by the Provincial Council of Valencia: <em>Teatro Principal<\/em>, <em>Plaza de Toros<\/em>, <em>Beneficencia<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In the 1960s, led by <strong>Jos\u00e9 Dominguis Renard<\/strong>, who joined the company when he was just 20 years old, the company\u2019s scope was expanded to include painting and coatings in the industrial (electrical, oil, metallurgical, chemical) and naval (shipyards) sectors, and the company consolidated its position as a national leader in these sectors. His father, Joaqu\u00edn Dominguis Cardona, and his eldest son, Joaqu\u00edn Dominguis Renard, handled residential painting projects until the end of the seventies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The move into nuclear and the consolidation of Grupo Dominguis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-72257 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HDJD-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HDJD-01.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HDJD-01-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HDJD-01-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HDJD-01-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1973, <strong>Jos\u00e9 Dominguis<\/strong>, under the name <strong>Dominguis SL<\/strong>, decided to branch out into other sectors, and spotted an opportunity in the <strong>nuclear sector<\/strong>, as the construction of the second generation of nuclear power plants had begun in Spain at that time.<\/p>\n<p>The quality and safety requirements were very high, but they met them, and in 1975 they landed the contract for painting and coating services on buildings and facilities at the Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant. Next came the Cofrentes contract in 1978, followed by Trillo and Vandell\u00f3s II.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4727 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/1977\/09\/lainsa-1-300x144.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/1977\/09\/lainsa-1-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/1977\/09\/lainsa-1.jpg 537w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once established in Almaraz, the company identified the maintenance and support needs required in the following phases. Faithful to its philosophy of growth and diversification, <strong>in 1977 Grupo Dominguis set up LAINSA<\/strong> (Log\u00edstica y Acondicionamientos Industriales, S.A.), which specialised in industrial cleaning work: hydro-blasting, absorption, chemical, cryogenic, sandblasting, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The company continued to broaden its scope by gradually offering new services that covered the entire life cycle of the nuclear power plants \u2013 decontamination services, radiological protection, waste management, decommissioning, emergencies \u2013 consolidating its position as a leading group in support services for operations, maintenance and decommissioning in the Spanish nuclear industry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From 2000 to the present. Diversification, internationalisation and innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-38953 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-08-24-at-15.16.15-5-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-08-24-at-15.16.15-5-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-08-24-at-15.16.15-5-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/11\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-08-24-at-15.16.15-5.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 2005, the <strong>Grupo Dominguis<\/strong> holding company was set up, incorporating all the companies of the Group, with <strong>Jos\u00e9 Dominguis<\/strong> as Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO, until 2012, when <strong>H\u00e9ctor Dominguis<\/strong>, Managing Director of the Group, took over as CEO, continuing with the Group\u2019s strategy of growth and diversification.<\/p>\n<p>Today, GDES, in addition to being a pacesetter in the provision of services to the nuclear industry at European level with a presence in more than 20% of French nuclear power plants and with decommissioning projects in Italy, Sweden and the United Kingdom, has expanded its services by working in new sectors such as wind energy, digital transformation and photovoltaic solar energy, with a presence in 9 countries: Spain, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden, Portugal, Panama, Mexico and the United States.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategy for the future<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-72259 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HD-27.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1016\" height=\"678\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HD-27.jpg 1016w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HD-27-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gdes.com\/corporate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/11\/HD-27-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1016px) 100vw, 1016px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since 2020, GDES has sought to consolidate its services geared towards environmental sustainability and has set out its strategy for the coming decades in 4 key areas: decarbonisation, providing services and supporting all low-carbon energy sources;
